What Pros Cons of a Medical Transcriber?
- Here is a website for general career info: bls. gov / oco and can type into search 'medical transcriptionist' or such. I'm sure that they have a high rate of developing 'repe ive strain injuries' such as carpal tunnel syndrome though regarding pay if one obtains a job, it is supposed to be a decent salary. Please steer clear from those 'online schools' such as penn foster or stratford career ins ute as they are not typically seen as reputable by employers. Perhaps you can try the local community college if even non - credit course or county vo - tech school as opposed to those expensive private schools
- I actually work as one for a hospital, so if you want real experience you might want to start in a hospital, even if it's part time. You can get tons of experience in many different types of dictations there. Also working for a hospital most times is paid by hour, whereas an outsourced company may only pay by the line. Working for a doctor's office would be good too but sometimes they want you to have experience, as they don't like taking time correcting mistakes. Good luck
- Its in extreme high demand and the money depends on how many hours you are willing to put into it. If you can market yourself to various doctor offices or at least get one busy doctor who can utilize your service, you are in business. I had a client who thought that working out of his home as a medical transciber would cause him less stress. Not so, it was so demanding that he was working more than 70 hours a week including his weekends
